CAN - definition

CAN stands for “Campus Area Network” which covers educational or corporate campuses. Mostly it is used to keep the connectivity among school buildings or industrial structures or corporate offices. A CAN offers more coverage than a LAN (Local Area Network) does.

Most CANs are comprised of several LANs associated with few routers or switches to create an stable network. It offers the system to communicate with each other directly and can get connected to the internet.

CAN is most likely a secure network communication system where a firewall takes place in between CAN and the internet to block unwanted access. The data transfer speeds within associated connected places are much higher than it provides while using the internet. CAN is also known as “Corporate Area network” or “Controller Area Network”.
